Liebster Award Nomination

After a long and boring day and the hype from the Superbowl settled, I was getting ready for bed when I received a notification for a nomination for a Liebster Award for new bloggers. I was thrilled and as part of the nomination, I have to answer some questions on my blog about my blog. So here goes:

1. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging back in 2009 when I first started a Tumblr account. It was just for fun and a way for me to express myself through mixed forms of media. After I graduated with my degree in media studies, I began to blog for media sites and contributing articles, but then I thought, “If I can contribute all these great articles to other sites, as a writer, why don’t I have my own?” This blog is an extension of a book that Geraldine and I published in December of 2014.

2. Do you intend on blogging long term?

Yes. As Geraldine and I work to build this brand and all that it will encompass, this blog will transform into a media platform written for and by all women.

3. What social media sites have given you the most responses?

We’ve gotten more views and feedback via our Facebook page. By posting content, it prompts followers to view the blog.

4. Where are you from (city, country)?

New Jersey.

5. Describe your blog in 3 words.

Witty, honest and relatable

6. Netflix or Hulu Plus? Why?

I never really used Hulu Plus, but I know it allows you to stream and watch primetime television shows while Netflix allows you to watch movies and primetime shows after the season is no longer airing. I don’t watch a lot of tv so Netflix is perfectly fine with me.

7. Have you seen Selma? Rate it.

On a scale from 1-10, I would have to give Selma a 5. I know that it only focused on a small portion of the Civil Rights Movement of the King era, however, I believe that it was very fast paced and left out a lot of unsung heroes such as Bayard Rustin and where was Ella Baker who was very instrumental in organizing for Dr. King as well during that time. She was a crucial part in starting SNCC.

8. Where would you like to visit the most?

I’m not the most cliche person when it comes to vacationing. Most would like to sit on sandy beaches in the Caribbeans. I want to explore. Lately it’s been Chefchaouen a small town in Morocco. It’s so colorful and earthy. Or the Greek Islands with it bold blues and pure white buildings.

9. What’s your muse?

That’s a tough one. I find inspiration in everything from my emotions to my experiences and the emotions and experiences of others. I feel as most peace when I am in nature. The peacefulness allows me to clear my head and gives me the head space to create.

10. Do you have any pets? What kind?

Well I had a Dachshund-Labrador mix named Zeus. Unfortunately when I moved into a new building I couldn’t bring him with me. I wish people were more dog friendly. I let a friend have him, but I would still like to believe he’s still my little ball of chocolate.

11. Has your blog changed since it’s start? How?

The blog is very much the same in terms of content, however we are due for a redesign soon to make the content more viewer friendly.
