As you know I’m very conscious about the products that I use. I like for them to be as natural as possible as if someone cooked them up in their kitchen and handed them to me. The same goes for deodorants. As I got older I started to notice the occurrence of cyst under my arms on a constant basis and I would suffer major breakouts with itchy rashes and hives under my arms that caused them to blacken when using certain antiperspirants such as Suave, Lady Speed stick, Dove, Secret and Degree. Some left my sensitive underarm skin burnt to the point where it hurt to wash them with soap and water, so I switched to the aluminum free clinical version of Dove and for a while everything was great. I didn’t have any breakouts or hives and rashes, but I realized that even if I used the deodorant daily and cleaned my underarms daily there was a lot of leftover residue that I would have to harshly scrub off which left my underarms dry and itchy. So I began to look for organic, natural deodorants and I started with Tom’s which I ended up not liking. Tom’s glided on easily, but the texture of the product left my underarms extremely moist and made me more prone to body odor from sweating. So I started to research products that were natural, organic and worked for someone who is active a lot. I came across Schmidt via a Facebook ad. The deodorant first picked up steam as a cream in glass jars which are still very popular, but they also offer it in standard solid tube form as well, so my mother and I ordered the Deluxe 5-Pack Sticks that come in five different fragrances: Unscented, Cedarwood + Juniper, Ylang-Ylang + Calendula, Bergamot + Lime, and Lavender + Sage. I’ve been using the Ylang-Ylang + Calendula. Here’s what I love about Schmidt:
- Fast-absorbing. Non-greasy, non-sticky feel.
- • Free of aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens & phthalates.
- • Plant-based powders protect against wetness without the use of aluminum.
- • Certified Vegan & Cruelty-free. Gluten-free.
Here’s what I really love about Schmidt:
I finished my first fitness class yesterday. A full body sweat class full of jumping, squatting, stepping and I was afraid at first that because it was organic and vegan that I would eventually start to smell like raw onions which was the experience I had with Tom’s, but to my surprise, I could still smell the essential oils and the earthy floral scent of the deodorant and because of that I am SOLD!! I’m currently using the stick, but I want to eventually try the cream as well. I especially love that it has calendula in it because it’s a very soothing plant that is also often found in baby products such as diaper rash creams, lotions, etc.
Standard Ingredients: Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E).
*Additional Ingredients: Cananga odorata (ylang-ylang) essential oil, Calendula officinalis (calendula) essential oil.
The additional ingredients vary based on fragrance of the deodorant, these are specifically for the Ylang Ylang + Calendula fragrance.
I will definitely be using Schmidt’s as my deodorant from now on and I also really want to try the other fragrances. I love how the Ylang-Ylang + Calendula has a floral and very strong scent. I love when I can smell my deodorants but I hate when they’re the generic scents that comes from the regular brands. I love how natural this one smells.
If you are interested in purchasing Schmidt’s Deodorant, check out their website here. I use the sticks which come in a BPA-free, and 100% recyclable, however if you are interested in the glass jars there is a recycling program that comes with some perks.
